dialer.nodedial.com
If this name or 137.220.60.147 showed up in your BBS logs, those are people calling your board from a web browser through NodeDial. Each connection is one person at a keyboard, the same as a caller with a terminal program.
Why every caller has the same address
Browsers can't open telnet connections, so NodeDial carries the call: the caller's browser connects to NodeDial, and NodeDial connects to your board. That means every NodeDial caller reaches you from this one address.
NodeDial only calls boards whose sysops signed them up, and each board's bridge is locked to that board's address. If your board gets NodeDial calls and you never listed it, email us and we'll look into it.
Listed boards also get a short connection every few minutes from this address. That's the status light on the board's NodeDial page checking that the board answers. It connects and hangs up without logging in.
Please don't ban the address
Banning 137.220.60.147 blocks every NodeDial caller, not just the one causing trouble. To deal with one person, lock their account on your board. If your software bans addresses automatically after failed logins or rapid connections, exempt this one:
- Synchronet: add
137.220.60.147(ordialer.nodedial.com) on its own line inctrl/ipfilter_exempt.cfg. - Mystic: in the configuration, Servers, Edit IP Allowlist, add
137.220.60.147. Also check your telnet server's Dupe IP Limit, which defaults to one connection per address.
Report a problem
Email abuse@nodedial.com with your board's name, the date and time (with your time zone), and what happened. We keep a record of which address called which board for 14 days, so we can find the caller and block them from NodeDial. We read every report.
NodeDial carries calls; it doesn't host messages or files, and it doesn't record what callers type or see. Our terms cover the rest.
